Miami, FL. As part of her priorities during her term in office, Dr. Barbara Montford, President of the Dade County Medical Association (DCMA) announced the creation of a new Affiliated Medical Association Membership Program for the DCMA.  This program, developed by Dr. Raul Ravelo and Dr. Jorge Marcos, co-chairs of the DCMA Membership Committee, will allow local healthcare organizations to join the DCMA as an association.  “The goal of the program is to unify all of the physicians in Miami-Dade County to advocate for the benefit of our patients and our profession”, expressed Dr. Ravelo.

This new membership category will provide participating organizations and their members, a series of benefits typically reserved for regular members of the DCMA. The first organization to join the DCMA as an Affiliated Medical Association is the Dominican Health Care Association of Florida, Inc. (DOHCAF).

DOHCAF was founded in January of 2011 with the goal of uniting the significant number of health care professionals who are either Dominican, were trained in the Dominican Republic, or have ties to the community and who live or practice in the State of Florida. DOHCAF President, Dr. Monica Dorvil-Bello, expressed her satisfaction on the new partnership and hopes this will bring more recognition to the Dominican health care community. “One of our goals is to advocate for an active role of members of our community in the Legislature, community boards, and other regulatory bodies.  We think that through the DCMA we can have more access to these governance bodies”, said Dr. Bello.

“The DCMA is working to expand this program and bring more members from different medical communities together so we can work together for the well being of our constituents in Miami-Dade County”, said Dr. Montford.  “We encourage all the medical organizations to join the DCMA, because working together our voice is stronger”.
