Miami, FL. In continuation of an effort launched last year, Dr. Antonio Mesa, President of the Dade County Medical Association (DCMA) announced that the Nicaraguan American Medical Association (NAMA) has joined the DCMA as an Affiliated Medical Association. This program, developed by Dr. Raul Ravelo and Dr. Jorge Marcos, allows local medical and healthcare organizations to join the DCMA as a group.
“The main goal of the program is to unify and bring together all of the physicians in Miami-Dade County so we can advocate for the benefit of our patients and our profession”, expressed Dr. Ravelo, Chair of the Affiliated Medical Association Committee of the DCMA.
The Nicaraguan American Medical Association (N.A.M.A.) was established in 1987 to provide a means for the Nicaraguan-American physicians to assemble together and connect to the latest medical advancements through monthly meetings and specially sponsored medical conferences.
The purpose of the Association is the study of the medical sciences in their highest manifestations, the drawing together and union of Nicaraguan physicians and affiliates of other nationalities, and the protection of their professional interests in the United States of America.
The essence of the association has been defined by its obligations toward its members and the patients it serves. It is through this spirit that N.A.M.A. has continually offered its community not only an awareness of the rich Nicaraguan culture which it represents, but also has provided the care of the best physicians the Nicaraguan-American community has to offer.
“We want to thank the DCMA for providing us with this opportunity. We look forward to forging a very long, fruitful and beneficial relationship with the DCMA with the goal of providing our patients and members the best efforts our organization can offer in our health care environment,” said Oscar Pozo, M.D., President of N.A.M.A.
“The DCMA will continue to expand this program and bring more members from different medical communities and associations together so we can work for the well being of our physicians and patients in Miami-Dade County”, said Dr. Mesa. “We encourage all the medical organizations to join the DCMA, because working together our voice is going to be stronger”.
This membership category provided participating organizations and their members, a series of benefits typically reserved for regular members of the DCMA. The other organizations that have joined the DCMA as Affiliated Medical Associations to date are the Dominican Health Care Association of Florida, Inc. (DOHCAF) and Haitian Physicians of Florida (Association Médicale Haïtienne a l’Etrange (AMHE) - Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad)
